Got my blood results back..FINALLY!

My primary care doctor just called with my blood test results, and I  knew they would be not so good.  In October of 2007 my level was 1.7, in January they dropped to 0.9 As of March 19th they were at 5.1 which is still "norma" but obviously my levels are changing.  I am going to be following up wiht my endo on the 14th of April, hopefully everything will "bounce back" to normal and the side effects will be gone.

In order to produce enough hormones, the healthy thyroid tissue must be at least 7 cu. sm in volume (for female of average weight).

Is it possible for my levels to return to normal and function perfectly fine on only half a thyroid without the use of any hormone pills?  Especially if I am already having hypothyroid symptoms?  It has been a month since surgery and rather than feel any better I just keep feeling worse.   Thanks for the input :)

If TSH is higher then 3, the low dose of thyroid hormones may be necessary in order to avoid the overstimulation of remaining lobe (and in the worse case the overstimulation can lead to formation of nodules in the remaining lobe).
As you lost part of the thyroid, you should stay away from thyroid inhibitors--use low fluoirdated or fluoride-free toothpaste, avoid exposure to the new upholstery and let the chlorine to evaporate from tap water before drinking it.
The people with healthy thyroids can easily tolerate this stuff but not hypothyroid people

I am not 100% sure what was tested, I believe it was the TSH though.  My pcp doesn't want to put me on any meds as he would rather leave it up to my surgeon.  It just sucks that I have to wait to see the endo.  My pcp said he doesn't know too much about the thyroid but he did say my levels were looking as if they were going to be hypo because of the changes in levels and the horrible side effects I am experiacing (exhaution/fatigue/tingling etc).

I am assuming these numbers are TSH.  If so, 5.1 is not normal, you are hypo.  Did you have any other test done like FT4, FT 3 or antibodies?  Unfortunately, you can not get the full picture of thyroid function with just TSH.
