Has anyone else had difficulty returning to higher dose (Synthroid) after hyperthyroid episode?

Hi,

Thanks for all of your support re: my previous question.  This is a great forum.

I've had hypothyroidism for years and was comfortably  taking 125 mcg of Synthroid..  About nine months ago, I had a terrible bout of hyperthyroidism (thyroiditis or Hashitoxicosis) and suddenly couldn't tolerate my medication!.
It was very strange.   I had to lower my dose considerably and am now very slowly trying to increase it to 88mcg.. .  My TSH was all over the place but is now at the upper end of normal but would like to get it lower to about 1.   Has this happened to anyone else?

Thanks!

Hashitoxicosis is a temporary hyperthyroidism caused by inflammation associated with Hashimoto's thyroiditis.  It results in an excess release of thyroid hormone.

Have you had any ultra sounds or scans yet on your thyroid? - I think that would be a good thing to look into with your doctor.

I started off on 25mcg then slowly increased until I hit the 75mcg per day then went hyper and started back at 50mcg again , slowly increasing and I mean SLOWLY.
I have since cut back to 62.5mcg x 5 days and 50mcg 2x days but found that around the 5th week, my FT3 was high and everything else 'normal'.
So now I am in my 2nd week of 62.5 x 4 days and 50mcg x 3 days and will see where this takes me.
I have found that my FT3 goes high which in my books means too much meds so I cut back.
You learn over a long period of time (which I am sure you have too) that you know your own body enough to know when you are taking too much.

Other hormones in the body also change the consistancy of your levels especially female hormones, also cortisol (produced by stress).

I have a heart condition and felt great with my TSH at 2.3 -2.5 so I never go lower than that or I end up with Bradycardia and Tachycardia and severe anxiety really bad.
Hope that helps.
