Has anyone every Had a TPOab Test Result so High?

I am newly diagnosed with Hashimoto's by One Day. I have been really sick for months and finally the answer has come. I have lost 15 lbs in the last month and I am very tall and thin person all ready.  My family doctor wote a prescription for Methimazole to start today. An ultrasound of neck found the problem and he followed up with bloodwork. He sent me copies and one thing that stood out was part of the Throglobulin Antibody Panel.
There is a TOPab test.  This is my results.
Result          Reference Range
3936.3         0.0 - 60.0

Has anyone ever heard of such a high range? Is this normal for Hashimoto's? My doctor has not refered me to an Endro. yet.

Any thoughts would greatly appreciated.

If your doctor won't see you call your insurance company and request a referral from them........or go to your ER and they will take care of all of it.

i don't understand why you are taking the methimazole.  you MUST discuss this with your doctor because methimazole will suppress your thyroid.  you need your thyroid to be stimulated.

just because your aunt has graves disease and you have similar symptoms doesn't mean that you need to be on the same med that she took.

you need to STOP THE METHIMAZOLE and go to your doctor TODAY.

Stop the Methimazole and see your Doctor straight away.
You are Hypo and the MMI will make you more hypo which could be dangerous.
Why on earth would he prescribe MMI?
Its beyond me how Doctors can prescribe medications that will make you severely ill.
I wouldnt be waiting, I'd go to the Surgery and demand answers NOW.

I just started the methimazole last night. All of Your comments are helping me with my research into this and I really do appreciate it so much. I called the endocrinologist and you have to have a referral, so I guess I will have to call my doctor and complain "more" about all of these symptoms.  Hopefully I can get a referral now.

have you taken the methimazole?  that may be what's making you feel worst.

you're definitely hypothyroid because your ft4 is low and your tsh is high (the new range for tsh is .3 - 3.0).

i would followup with endocrinologist soon.  your doctor is right about not needing the nuc uptake scan...that is prescribed when you have hyperthyroidism and the cause needs to be determined.

I agree that I believe you are being treated incorrectly!!!  Looking at your lab results indicates Hashimoto's NOT Graves!!  You really need to see an endo NOW and not wait the 4 weeks!!!!!

Sorry I am so long to respond. I have been in the bed, literally, all day from pure fatique. I have absolutely no apetite, and I am having diffulculting swallowing.  This is what started the process of trying to diagnose this problem. I had Rotator Cuff surgery in Dec. and after that I had issues swallowing. I was convienced, that something happened to my throat during surgery.  I went to see and ENT. He thought maybe they "stirred up" some unknow acid reflux and that was causing the problems. So had and endoscopy 5 weeks ago. After that tube went down it "stirred up" --whatever'--- again but only worse. 6 days later, I was still on a Liquid only diet, because I could not swallow and my left side of neck was in severe pain. The gastrologist became concerned and sent me for an Ultrasound of my lymph nodes and thryoid and a Barium Swallow Test --YUMMY!!!

He called me the next day and told me I either had Graves Disease or Hashimotos and he was forwarding to my Family Doctor. My family doctor did the blood work and wrote the script.

He also said to come back in 4 weeks for a followup appointment.

My aunt has Graves, and I have all the symptoms she has. And this was the med she was on.  So "Yes" I am concerned about the treatment. I have already decided to ask for appt with the Endr. at the 4 week appt.

The family doc. Originally wanted to do a Nuc. Uptake Scan and had it scheduled, but when the blood work came back, he cancelled and said I didn't need it. I felt I should have had it. I have insurance that would pay 100%.

I am very confused about the whole situation. And the results. And the Meds...

please research hyperthyroidism, hypothyroidism, and hashimotos disease.  you'll see that methimazole is not prescribed to people with hashimotos and/or hypothyroidism.

i'm concerned because i'm wondering why you were put on methimazole.  methimazole is prescribed for hyperthyroidism so that the thyroid can be suppressed.  you should be on synthroid because you have hypothyroidism...meaning that your thyroid isn't working and synthroid would replace what your thyroid isn't producing.

you need to see an endocrinologist ASAP so that you can properly be tested and diagnosed.

from what i've read here, no.  having a result that high isn't uncommon.  it indicates that you definitely have autoimmune thyroid disease of some sort.

however, you need to get to an endocrinologist to have further testing done.  you could have graves disease, hashimotos disease, or silent thyroiditis.  each condition is treated differently.  from what you've posted, it doesn't seem like your doctor has done all of the tests necessary to determine which condition you have.  am i right?
