Hashi attack VS. too much medication

I haven't posted on here in quite some time but I need your advice again ;-)  I am trying to decide if what I am experiencing is another Hashi attack or possibly too much Levoxyl.  I have increased my dose 17 days ago from 37.5 to 44 and was doing fine until today. I little while ago I started having pretty intense anxiety and hot flashes which follows with being freezing cold.  My heart rate is staying steady only going up to 82 so that is ok although it feels faster. Only other symptoms is a very painful swollen feeling in my thyroid area. My last results were TSH 3.960 (0.340-5.600), FT4 0.70 (0.61-1.12) and FT3 305 (230-420) and previously TSH 2.750, FT4 0.85 and FT3 350.  What is your opinion of my sudden symptoms?  Thank you!

Thanks I guess I will just wait and see but am scared to take it again tomorrow and possibly go through this again.   As far as my period, well I finished my cycle on Saturday so I don't think that's it unless my hormones are still going crazy.  Who knows anymore!!

Okay, your labs done before the med change, makes sense and I believe the change is warranted.  I do not necessarily agree with the pharmacist that you would have had trouble before day 17, if it were the med since it typically takes 5-6 weeks to get the full effect of a med change.  To me, that issue could be a toss up, since you can have a problem with med at any time.

The flu can leave you tired and fatigued for a long time, so what you are feeling could be "residual" from that, along with the stress created from being sick, while dealing an entire sick family -- that couldn't have been an easy task.

Tamra is right - your period could also have something to do with it -- I've had a hysterectomy so don't deal with that anymore, so I often forget about it and I've also never been hyper since I was dx'd hypO -- meaning I was done "swinging" back and forth before I was ever dx'd.

I still would give it more time to see if things settle down again.

I get hyper symptoms when I'm on my period. I thought it was too much medication at first, and I went back down from 100 to 75 Synthroid, but my frees were still low. I've talked to many other Hashis and they have this during menstruation. One friend had it so bad during her period, that she had a hysterectomy, and you know what? She still gets the hyper symptoms during that time of the month, even though she no longer has periods!

My GYN put me back on the pill last month. I tried the 100 Synthroid again, and so far, no problems. I will start my period in a few days. I'm waiting to see if I get the hyper symptoms again. Fingers crossed!

:) Tamra

I came down with the flu on the 18th and was sick for a week. I still have the residual cough and still batteling the fatigue as well (which could be thyroid related too).  My labs were done before I became sick and before the increase in meds.  I have a call out to my doctor and have already called the pharmacist who told me that if it was too much medication I should of had problems before day 17 but I just don't know. I have been batteling problems with all this for 8 months now so you would think I would know the difference between hypo symptoms, too much medication and or hyper moment with Hashi's but I don't!!!!!

The anxiety and hot flashes could indicate hyper, but at 3.960, your TSH is still over range (your lab is using an outdated reference range); your FT4 is at the very bottom of it's range and your FT3 is < mid range, all of which indicate that you are still hypo and that the increase in med was justified - that's assuming that those results were BEFORE the increase.

How recently did you have swine flu?  That could have caused increased inflammation, which could contribute to swelling in the thyroid area.  Were the labs before or after the flu episode?  TSH can fluctuate for a variety of reasons, with illness and/or stress being high on the list.

If this just started today, I, personally, would most likely ride it out for a few days to see if the symptoms ease, since it's not unusual for strange things to happen following a dosage change.  However, if you feel really horrible, I'd strongly suggest that you talk to your doctor.

Just wanted to add that my whole family including myself just recently got over the swine flu so I don't know if that matters or not ;-)
