synthroid and cytomel

I have hashimoto's disease and have so for the past 17 years.  I monitor it pretty regularly, although I do hate to have to go get checked.  I am on 125 mg of synthroid, and I find I really do put on weight still pretty easily.  See I am in the bodybuilding/figure world, and compete, so I have to get my weight and bodyfat pretty low.  I am a testament that it is possible to do so.  However, I do really have to work hard at it.  I do have an of season though where my eeight is supposed to go up and i am supposed to put on muscle, but mine skyrockets.  I was wondering if anyone out there has ever tried adding in 25 mg of cytomel to level things out.  I just received some and was going to add it in but i didn't want to screw things up more than they already are.  If anyone has any answers or opinions let me know.

Ditto to everything BArb said!  I too have a conversion issue that my Dr prescribed Cytomel with my Synthroid.

I wouldn't advise adding cytomel without knowing what your actual thyroid levels are -- that's Free T4, Free T3 and TSH.  T3 med (cytomel) is about 4 times more potent than the T4 med (synthroid) and it can really throw you for a loop if you don't need it.  It can cause very rapid heart rate, palps, etc.  

Whenever cytomel is added, the T4 med should be dropped accordingly.  Did you receive the cytomel from your doctor or as a script?  What did your doctor say about adding it?  

I, personally, am on cytomel because I have a problem converting T4 med to the usable T3 and I can honestly say it hasn't done much for me as far as losing weight.  Cytomel should NEVER be used for a weight loss drug.....................
