please remember they usually start out the dosage very slowly and gradually increase so it will be months before he is back to himself. The best thing you can do is to realize this is chemistry and not him, be understanding, google what he shouldn't eat that makes hypo worse and avoid those foods, make sure he is not drinking coffee with his meds and waiting a hour or 30 minutes when taking meds and drinking a glass of water with meds, don't take vitamins with meds hence wait 4 hours, there's many things you can do to make this journey easier and actually help him ....so please google what is good and bad for the thyroid, and remember.....it is very frustrating to have this diagnosis and live with the symptoms until your meds are where they need to be and even then it is a life long journey of staying balanced for many.....he needs you now more than ever...PATIENCE, UNDERSTANDING, AND educating yourself so you can advise him of what you are learning and what can be extra help besides just the meds.....a good 8 hrs sleep is very helpful as well every night....since he is self employed he probably doesn't have much time to read up on this diagnosis so you can be a huge help......the fact that you googled here is great
One of the best things you and your husband can do is to get copies of all his blood work and keep his history yourselves. Call your doctor and ask for a copy, which they have to provide to you upon request, then post those for us to see with reference ranges. Ranges vary lab to lab, so they have to come from his own lab report.
Which meds is your husband taking? What's the dose?
Thyroid disorders can cause emotional changes. Once medication is adjusted properly (a process that can take some time), these changes should reverse.
