Thyroid

Had my left thyroid removed 15 years ago because of abnormal growth on a cyst on it.  A few months ago I started feeling as I was going to faint.  A few days later I went to the doctor because I left a lump on the left side.  They did a sonogram and at that time my right thyroid was fine.  Three months later they do another sonogram and that sonogram showed 2 solid or complex cystic-appearing findings within the right lobe of the thyroid that measures up to .4cm.  Blood work is TSH 1.91, T4 Thyroxine 7.6, T3 78.  I am concerned because I have gained 26 pounds since March - August 2014.  I feel tired, cold, my body is sore especially my hips and upper back and shoulders.  I eat pretty healthy.  I noticed my energy is low and feel cruggy.  My nails brake easily (split) and my hair feels dry and is thinning out.  I really would appreciate your help because I am concerned.

If your Free T4 and especially your in Free T3, are similar to your Total T4 and Total T3, then it is no wonder that you are having those symptoms.  I urge you to go and get tested for Free T3 and Free T4 as soon as you can.  While there you should also request to be tested for Vitamin D, B12 and ferritin.   Hypo patients are frequently too low in the ranges for those as well.

Many of our members say that relief from hypo symptoms required Free T3 in the upper part of its range, and Free T4 around the middle of its range.  I expect taht your Free t3 and Free T4 are a long way from those levels.

When you have additional test results, please post, along with reference ranges, and members will be glad to help interpret your status and advise further.

The numerical ranges shown for Total T3 (76-181ng/dL) and Total T4  (4.5-12. mcg/dL).  I am not taking thyroid meds.

What are the numerical ranges shown for Total T3 and Total T4?

Are you taking any thyroid med?  If so, brand and dosage please.

The TSH reference range is mIU/L, for T4 mcg/dL, T3 ng/dL and yes it is total.

Assuming those are Total T4 and Total T3 tests, they are not nearly as revealing as would be tests for the biologically active thyroid hormones, Free T4 and Free T3.  However, pleae post the reference ranges for those anyway.  Also, are you taking any thyroid med?  If tested for Vitamin D, B12 and ferritin (iron), please post those results along with ranges also.
