Hypo and muscle twitching???

Is there a link between hypothyroidism and muscle twitching?  My muscles often twitch, mostly in my legs and my face sometimes.  Also, sometimes I get shooting pain in my fingers or, once, in down my left foot.  Its not a huge deal, just really annoys me, you know?

I don't know if it connected or not to thyroid problems - new here - but I get right eyelid twitches every day.  Freaky..... its a good question, sorry I could not be of more help, but welcome!

My muscles all over my body have been twitching for almost 3 years now.

I want to believe it is hypo related as I have no other diagnosis.

I began treatment in Sept. 07 for "mild" hypoT.

I still have the twitching, though not as bad, I think.

I am increasing my dose of meds to get my TSH below 1, hopefully. We'll see. My main symptom is slight dizziness/weakness and the runner up is the twitching.

Muscle aches and pains etc. particularly in the thighs are very common when you are hypothyroid, so I imagine your twitching would fit in there too.  Are you already suffering with thyroid disease your post doesn't say, only if not you should get your bloods done to check it out. And even if you are aleady diagnosed with it, it could be you need your meds looked at. Hope this helps.

Yes it does help.  I am not diagnosed hypothyroid but I will need more tests to determine if I am (my TSH was 6.85 slightly elevated) but I have been experiencing some symptoms.  I go back to the doc on June 4.
Anyhow I was just thinking, it is amazing to think that something in my foot could be associated with a problem nowhere near it.  We have come far.

Yes, I believe there is a connection. Since I have been taking syntroid, I have  these twitches in my hands, and muscles are achy, also. So, is it the meds doing this?

A TSH of 6.85 is more than slightly elevated.  The range currently recommended by the Amer. Assn. of Endocrinologists is .3-3.0.  When you go back to the doctor, insist that they test for free T3 and free T4 as well. (not total T3 and Total T4).  TSH is a pituitary hormone that doesn't really correlate with hypo symptoms.  Free T3 is the thyroid hormone that is the most biologically active and it largely regulates metabolism and correlates best to hypo symptoms.   Treating patients by testing and regulating their free T3 and free T4 enough to alleviate symptoms is the most effective approach, if you can get your doctor to  do that.  Let us know how things work out.
