Hypo or Hyper??

Hi- I was diagnosed with hypothyroid a year an a half ago and my TSH was 208, ( I don't remember my T4 or T3 numbers but I will be getting them tomorrow) and was put on Synthroid 100 mcg. Then I got pregnant and after my baby was born at my 6 wk postpartum my labs showed I was now in the hyperthyroid range...My endo just wanted to lower my dose which I was fine with but after having some scary heart pounding episodes and feeling nervous I stopped taking it all together and then felt fine. But I figured after a few months of being off Synthroid I should probably get it checked again and my TSH was 93. So I again went back on Synthroid, and I again started feeling many symptoms of hyperthyroid- rapid and pounding heart, nervousness, anxiety, leg numbness/ weakness, insomnia. My doc lowered my dose to 50 and I still have been having those same hyperthyroid symptoms. My doc has given me a prescription for Armour and I am hoping to have better luck with that- I am starting it tomorrow but I am nervous about getting those same symptoms back again! So my question is have I just been on too high of a dose or is there a way I could have both hypo and and hyper thyroid? I have read a little on postpartum thyroiditis but not sure if I could still have that... my baby is 6 montns old.  If anyone could shed some light here I would appreciate it! Thanks

Minn, I take armour, and it can cause all kinds of anxiety, heart palps. One of the things that I have done, and it seems to help somewhat, is to get a pill splitter and divide the pill. I have found that that doesn't dump so much of the T3 in at one time, which is a contributer to those symptoms I listed. That also helps with the hypo to hyper jumps as well.

From what I have read, it flip flops back and forth, and you will have to adjust your meds accordingly. One way I have heard it is to "manipulate" your dosage.

Best wishes....Peggy

No, I have not gotten copies of my labwork but I am going to be requesting them today. Also I do believe I have Hashimoto's.
So what is the treatment for that...if you are on hypo meds and then fluctuate into hyper is that safe? Also would you be able to tell by your labs if you are hyper or could they still reflect that you are hypo?
Like I said I just got my labs done last week and my TSH was 31 but I still have been having many symptoms of hyper.... Dyou have any experience with Armour would I maybe get hyper symptoms from Synthroid and not from Armour? I just don't know what is going on! Thank you for you advice. :o)

Do you get copies of your lab work? If not, always ask for a copy. You have a right to them.

When is your next lab due?
Has your dr run the antibody tests to rule out Hashimoto disease? You go from hypo to hyper on that.

Also, being pregnant causes a lot of hormonal changes that might have had something to do with this.

Sometimes, when the dosage is changed, it causes a reaction as our body is adjusting. Irritating, and a problem for those of us trying to have some semblance of life.

You have a lot of issues going on at one time here, so get some rest, monitor your symptoms. Do you ever check your basal temp?

This thing takes some time for some people to adjust, and some just take a pill and get all better, Unfortunately, I am in the first catagory.
