hyperhtyroid

I was recently diagnosed with hyperthroid.  The only symptoms I am experiencing are rapid heart rate and palpitations.  I have had a blood work, iodine scan and ultrasound and there are two small nodules on each side of my thyroid.  At this point the endocrinologist wants me to continue taking propanoll(sp?) and watch to see what happens.  I go back in June.  Is this acceptable for my heart and should the nodules be checked for cancer?

Thanks!

The nodules were less than 1 cm so thank you for that information.

I am negative for Graves. My lab work all came back normal except the TSH level.  I am not on anti-thyroid meds and that concerns me since I feel like we are just fixing the symptoms with the beta blockers and not taking care of the problem.   Just feel like I should get a second opinion.

Have you been put on anti-thyroid meds too?
Like Carbimazole, Methimazole, PTU?
If you are hyper then you definately need anti-thyroid meds as well as the beta blockers.
What were your labs and did you have the antibody test (TSI) for Graves Disease?

i am not sure about the hyperthyroid question, I was hypo and had hashimotos.  If the nodules are smaller than 1 cm, they will not test them...best to watch and wait, but the heart palpitations are a concern.  Your thyroid is the lesser of the problems.
