diagnosis finally

I went to the new endo today and he diagnosised Hashs's.   He did more lab work, check my TSH, T3, and antibodies.  Ultrasound showed alternating black spots and grey areas with black spots representing lymph nodes.  No nodules or goiters. Whatever that means?  He is supposed to call me tomorrow and give me all the results and what medications to start.  Remember the crazy endo that said my symptoms where coming from my Zoloft well this one said no way and to contact my shrink and get back on it.  So guys what is in store for me? I'm alittle scared. I'll keep you guys posted.

I got my test results.  All within normal limits.  I suspect its cause I took Synthroid for a short amount of time around x-mas.  And the doc agrees. You all know i stopped cause of the anxiety attacks.  The doc did say that my antibodies were greater than a 1000 and that my thyroid looked pretty bad on the ultrasound.  He is suggesting that I get back on my Zoloft before he does any thing with the thyroid.  And repeat labs in 3 weeks.  He says the Synthyroid should be out of my system by then.  I just think he should start the med now so I don't have to start completly all over.  My TSH was 3.72 and last week it was 3.47.  Wouldn't that be an indicator that its going back up since I haven't taken the synthyroid.  I think I just might call him tomorrow and request to be put on the medication.  What do you all think?

I am terrified to start the Synthroid again.  The last time I had terrible panic attacks.  But now I wonder if it weren't just the heart stuff all you guys talk about.

No nodules means no "growths" or supsicious growths or anything like that .. goiter/swelling, etc.  that is great news as you don't want to contend with both.  Nodules can be cancer.

I was TERRIFIED to start Synthroid and honestly, for the most part, I feel better on the fake hormones than my own!  A bit of tweeking here and there along the way, but other than that all is well so don't be too concerned as this type of med takes weeks to build up and kick in .. not like a tranquilzer or pain pill which works fast and you feel immediate results .. I say this to comfort you, in that you won't feel like a different person the next morning after you take the first pill .. it won't control you type of thing.

Depending on your results, you may start taking a pill to replace the thyroid hormone your body is not making enough of. It is not known to have side effects. You usually take it in the morning on an empty stomach. The dose may start out low, and with blood testing every 6-8 weeks, the doctor will adjust your medication until the TSH/free t4 are in an optimum range.
Don't be too scared- the meds will help you to start feeling better gradually- or sometimes fairly quick! It may put you right back on track after a time.
I was actually relieved to finally get a diagnosis and that's why I congratulated you. Maybe that sounded strange.
Please post back with an update.

Hang in there!

I am so glad you have your diagnosis.
I went through nearly the same thing this past summer. I was unfortunately put on Lexapro 1 month before my diagnosis. I think that helpded hold me together, though.
I know that Zoloft can increase the need for more thyroid hormone if you take it and thyroid replacement hormone.
Post back with your results and proposed medication. You may be able to wean off the Zoloft after a time... I will be doing that with the Lexapro.

Congratulations!
