I have an ultrasound on the 4th! Multinodular Goiters

I am nervous! What can I expect? He said last month I was not hypo or hyper but a 3rd category? Anyone know anything about that? Is parathyroid a possible 3rd category. I have no idea, I am just searching.

Thanks to both of you! He definitely said that I have multinodular goiters now and said it may have to come out. They had grown alot from oct. 17th to nov. 17th. My vitamin d is low. I take 50,000 units once weekly and t3 t4 and tsh was low but he said my pituitary was fine. Any other suggestions or questions I should ask will be appreciated.(Iam on armour thyroid meds) My apt. is 2 tomorrow, will let you know. Thanks again.

I'm not sure what your dr was talking about but I'm pretty sure it would not have been the parathyroid glands.  They are separate from the thyroid with disorders all their own.  Though the two could be having issues at the same time the dr would still address them individually.  Perhaps the dr was talking about something relating to secondary hypothyroidism - issues originating from another area of the body that affect the thyroid's function.  Also there is central hypothryoidism - issues originating from the pituitary gland that affect the thyroid's function.

I think the u/s will give the dr and you a better idea of what's going on and I agree with above that getting an u/s is a piece of cake.

IMO - The upside of thyriod disease is that its issues all have answers and treatments and are not diseases without hope.

Try not to be too nervous.  Let us know what happens.

1st of all I am not sure about the parathyroid thing but I was also not hypo or hyper at the time. The ultrasound is a piece of cake it is the waiting for them to tell you what they see that drves you crazy. Mine took two day to get the report back. From  experience, if you have any nodule that is over 1.5cm the doctor will want a biopsy done on them. In my case I had 5 nodules with one at 1.9cm and the main one at 4.8cm so both of them had to have a biopsy done which is were they stick a needle in three times on each one. This process was really not that bad. Then you have to wait about a week to get the results back on that. If your results come back anything other than benign then your Doctor will want you to have the nodule/s removed. My nodules have become worse after the biopsy. Worse meaning that they are growing.
Best Wishes
