Hello all,
My wife had a thyroid area pain with fever, ear pain, fatigue and overall un-wellness. They diagnosed it as Sub acute Thyroiditis, although we don’t really recall a flu before that (as most people say that is the cause). She had all the blood work done and her blood work way out of whack. The palette counts were high and all others were not normal TSH and the rest. The doctor prescribed steroids (prednisone) as anti-inflammatory didn’t help. Initially she was on a 5 day course of prednisone. Then it went down, but the pain came back in a weeks’ time with all symptoms. The Prednisone was given again but this time for 3 - 4 weeks on a reducing dose. Things were all looking good and she was feeling well with the steroids, but one and half weeks’ time, she is again feeling bad, with 99.5 fever, and now the pain has shifted from Left to right. (initially it was all in the left). She cannot do much work and is very depressed. Doctor says her last blood work looks good but this was like 6 days ago, from that we are going to do another blood test tomorrow to see if things are bad. Sorry for the long write-up, but my question is, I thought the initial pain, fever and un-wellness should disappear in about 6 weeks, especially after the steroids. We are going to the doctor again, but she is in so much discomfort and seems to be getting worse every day (the pain), and I am trying to see if we are missing anything or doing something wrong or wrong diagnosis, or is this the nature of the beast.??? The doctor says its bad to continue the steroid for a long time, but this seems to be the only reliever of symptoms.
Thanks in advance
Bob
