post partly thyroid removal

I'm 44 and a mother of 12 and 8.  had my right thyroid removed 7 years ago because there was nodule and after the surgery the lab said  it was benign. After the surgery, my doctor didn't give any medicine because he said I still have my left thyroid...About one year ahead -up till now- my period became irregular- long period, bleeding after sex, bleeding in the middle of cycle. My ob gyn told me that I have hormone imbalance. After taking medicine , me period became normal  only for a couple of months and then became irregular again as before. I have heavy headache several times a month . I want to know wether  my hormone imbalance is caused by my thyroid removal or not.  Because I was told that period-irregularity is one of the symptom of cervical cancer too. I really confused

Hi, I do feel for you coz I have had a similar experience. I had the same problems as you with the bleeding after sex, heavy bleeding ,long periods (45 days! 3 days no period then back to the whole she-bang!) I had exploratory surgery to rule out endometriosis. Fast forward to last year...my left thyroid was removed with  benign follicular cell adenoma.
I then discovered I had Hashimoto's Disease. For 15 years I had the same problems as you and no-one picked Hashimoto's...my suggestion to you is go get your thyroid anti-bodies checked. My sister had the same problems with heavy bleeding and irregular etc....I told her to INSIST she gets tested for anti-bodies.....guess what? She too has Hashimoto's and is now on medication and about to deliver her second child after a 13 year gap!
Even though you only have one gland left, it can still be working it's little bottom off to compensate for the lack of the other, and being hypothyroid is a possibilty.
Let us know your results!
