I am assuming that the T4 test is for Total T4, based on the test result.  If so, you really should request to be tested for Free T4, rather than Total T4.  Total T4 is the total amount of T4 in your blood, regardless of whether it is bound up with protein (thus inactive), or free of protein (thus biologically active).  Of even greater importance is Free T3.  Free T3 largely regulates metabolism and many other body functions.  Studies have also shown that FT3 correlated best with hypo symptoms, while FT4 and TSH correlated very poorly.

If your doctor resists testing you for Free T3 and Free T4, then you should insist on it and don't take no for an answer.  When available, please post those test results and reference ranges shown on the lab report and members will be glad to help interpret and advise further.

A good thyroid doctor will treat a hypo patient clinically by testing and adjusting Free T3 and Free T4 as necessary to relieve symptoms, without being constrained by resultant TSH levels..  Symptom relief should be all important, not just getting some test numbers that make the doctor happy.  I think you can get some good insight into clinical treatment by reading this link.  The link is a letter written by a good thyroid doctor for patients that he consults with from a distance.  The letter is sent to the Primary doctor of the patient to help guide treatment.

That is why I posted all that about Free T3 and Free T4 and how important those tests are compared to TSH.  If your doctor just relies on TSH, and you just accept that, you may never get rid of hypo symptoms.  You need to take control of what testing is to be done, and insist on being treated clinically, for symptoms, by testing and adjusting FT3 and FT4 as necessary to relieve symptoms.
