Just been diagnosed with both! Oh great!

I have just been diagnosed with Graves AND Hashimoto's. I am a 46 year old female. I have been reading all of these posts and I am so confused with all of this. My T # is 24. My dr. said that 12 is normal and 20 is high. Here mine is at a 24.. Why?? I have never been one to sweat and I am sweaty constantly. I am on an anti thyroid and a beta blocker to calm down the pulse and tremors. They are kind of working, but I'm not sure if in fact they are. My dr. wants to destroy the thyroid but can't because she said I would go into thyroid storm. (not sure what that is) Anyway, I feel alone with all of this as none of my family members have never had any problems. Any help would be wonderful!! Thank you!

I had thyroid ablation in 2001 and yes you have to watch for signs of thyroid storm after this procedure . It rarely occurs, but can happen.

What T # is 24?  There's TSH, Free T3 and Free T4... It definitely sounds like you are hyper, but it would really be helpful if you could post all of your latest thyroid test results, with the reference ranges listed on your lab report, since these ranges vary from lab to lab, so must come from your own report.

I don't know why doctor said that destroying your thyroid would cause thyroid storm....... thyroid storm is a life threatening condition that occurs during untreated hyperthyroidism.  Destroying the thyroid would cause you to go hypo, which is what will ultimately happen anyway.
