Urine testing?

So I've been trying to figure out my thyroid.  I was diagnosed as hypothyroid, but while on the pills my face keeps flushing and I sweat profusely, even though my TSH is in the normal range.

My doctor ordered a 24-hour urine test, but it's going to be weeks before I'm home for a 24 hour period.  I was thinking about testing on Sunday, but I have a baby shower then and don't want to be carting around my urine.  Does anyone know if "holding it" until I get home (maybe four hours-ish?) would screw up the test?

It might, although I"m not sure.  I told the doctor that I my face has been flushing off and on, and he said there were many hormonal imbalances that could cause that and asked me to do the 24 hour urine test.

I ended up just boiling a mason jar and taking it with me in my purse when I could bring the 3000ml jug with me.

Thanks for your help!

"I just meant keeping my legs crossed until I was in a convenient place.."  I understood that, I meant that most samples have to be analyzed within a certain period of time after collection (that's called a "holding time"), so  you'd need to check with your doctor or lab to see if your collection time(s) would be in line with appropriate analysis times....

Other than that, I doubt it would make a difference, except that the longer you "hold" it, the more concentrated the urine might be.

Could this 24 hr test by any chance have to do with adrenal function?

I'm not sure what the urine test is for; maybe other hormones that could be interacting with my thyroid?

Thyroid tests aren't typically done on a 24 hr basis, or with urine; what specific tests are being done on the urine?

Most samples have a "holding time", which  means there's only a certain amount of time between when collected and analysis........ you will have to check with your doctor/laboratory as to how soon you need to need to submit the sample to the lab.......
