Last Hope! Hypothyroid Cause Migraines??????

As some of you know I have had a chain of events with my thyroid.  I'm Hypo first and have been on my synthroid .1MG for 2 weeks.  I have had persistant headaches in different places, sometimes on one side with nausea.  They start after I have been up for a couple of hours and last all day w/ little relief from otc meds; tylenol or motrin until I go to bed when they go away.  This has been going on about the same time.  Saw a ENT who ruled out sinuses and allergies, so I'm scared worried thinking the worse, brain tumor.  My last hope is that it's a migraine which I had 8 years ago then they went away.  I have only had thyroid disease for a year.  I'm having a MRI this evening because I begged my ENT but he said I need a Neurologist for the headache but he's doing it to prove me wrong that it's not a brain tumor because I don't have other symptoms of tumor.  All you hypothyroid veterans please help.

I notice you say you've been on Synthroid for just a couple of weeks, and that rings a very loud bell with me.  If the headaches started or got increasingly worse after you started Synthroid, you could be allergic or sensitive to a filler or dye in the Synthroid itself.  That was my experience.  The headaches and general body aches and pains started about two weeks after I started the Synthroid.  At first, I thought it was my body adjusting and part of the healing process, but they got worse and worse.  Finally, I experimented by not taking the Synthroid for about four days, and my symptoms all went away.  At this point, I approached my endo about changing medications.

Long story very much shorter, we have worked our way through almost all of the thyroid meds - Synthroid, Levoxyl, Thyrolar, even Armour - and right now I am taking Levothroid and Cytomel.  So far, so good.  We don't know exactly what it is, but there is no doubt I am reacting to something in the thyroid meds themselves.

I wouldn't recommend going off meds for an extended period of time but, if your symptoms improve in a few days, you should ask to have your thyroid meds changed.

My MRI was normal.  I don't like my thyroid, I want a thyroid transplant, jk, I know we can't do that, but I'm going to get ginger today.  Thanks all for the support.

Great advice above - and you will be amazed at the release of the headaches people find taking in that cocoanut oil!!

It can work for some people - especially thyroid patients.

It probably isn't a brain tumor.  I am 28 and was diagnosed with hypothyroidism last September.  I have had symptoms that have gotten worse over the years and after my physician found out I had my period for over a year as well as weight gain, fatigue, skin problems, headaches, air hunger, you name it I had it she ran a tsh and it was high.  I have also had headaches for years.  Since my thyroid diagnoses the headaches have only gotten worse and I also get bad sinus infections.  I have to take anywhere from 3-9 excedrine a day.  And the headaches are all kinds...some really bad where I can't get out of bed - some one sided...usually they are in my eyes but a couple of days ago it was an all over headache and it hurt to lay down even.  Your headaches will probably get worse.  I just started taking organic coconut oil again 2-3 times a day (so 2-3 tablespoons a day) - this is the only thing that helps me and I am hoping to switch to NatureThyroid.  Good Luck!  Ps:  I am also a workout fanatic and eat healthy so I know I am doing all I can really do on my own - plus I take vitamins.
