Lymph node swollen!!!

Hi everyone.  I'm back with more problems =(.  After my dad died, my son's father got shot 9 times.  He is ok though.  Now my son has chicken pox AND he had the vaccine.  As for me, well if anyone remembers I have a large multi-nodular goiter.  I had a lot of small nodules that were too small to biopsy.  I do have thyroid andtibodies and hashimoto's is suspected but still not confirmed.  Anyway, now I noticed under my chin /jaw I have a swollen lymph node.  Now I am really freaked out because I couldn't even get the biopsy.  AHHHH.  I have a docs appointment on Fri, but this is really scare me.  Can Hashimoto's cause swollen lymph nodes?

Thanks again everyone!!!

Yeah, when I did have chicken pox really bad, but I suppose its possible to have them again.  I have had a slight sore throat.  I think the doctors have no ideas why its swollen so they just give anitbiotics as a way of guessing.  It's just frustrating as my neck is already huge with the goiter.  About 3 weeks ago though.. I had a pimple.  I felt a lump under it kind of (in the same area this gland was), but just attributed it to the pimple.  Now, however, I wonder if it was the same lymph node I am feeling now.  It did go away then though.  ERRR, it seems like everything keeps pointing for me to get out the goiter, as much as I'd love to keep my thyroid, this stress is just too much.

Agree with kitcurious.  LOTS of things make them swell up.  Could be just a seasonal allergy flaring up a little and it's swollen b/c it's fighting it off.  Or it could be the chicken pox.  Even if you have had them if you didn't have a really bad case of them you can have them or symptoms of them again.  Do understand why your worrying, but you should relax, it's probably nothing.

Yes. Hashis can cause them, as can many other things. The neck is the most common location for a swollen lymph node and is often viral in origin. I'd get it checked out and try to relax about it for now.

Apparently, touching them is one of the causes of them persisting.

Have you had chicken pox? That virus causes lymph nodes in that area to swell. I worked for the person who trained the school health nurses for years and kids commonly get the virus even though they've had the shot. They don't get as bad version of it though so that's good.

Could be an infection, but possibly not. One doctor friend told me that many doctors will write what they know to be a useless rx for antibiotics because it's the fastest way to get a patient out of the office and get paid.

Hope it all turns out well for you. Let us know what the doc says.
