My 16yr olds Labs...............

I figured since i have thyroid issues (TT)....let me stay on top of my kids and their health. I requested labs for my 22yr old last year and her gp which is the same as mine said that they were ok and i did not request a copy of them. Last week i requested the same for my 16yr old and 9 yr old daughters. Requested copies of both labs and this is what my 16yr old lab results are:
TSH                                  0.672              0.27-4.2
Thyroxine, Free (Ft4)           1.21               1.1-1.8
Free T4 Index                      2.2                 1.1-4.5
T3 (thyronine) Total              117(low)          120-260
T3, Free (FT3)                      3.7                 2.4-5.0
Anti-Tpo Ab                          <10                 <35

Now TSH is "on the floor" Free T4 is mid-range and Free T3 is also midrange but Total T3 is lower than normal range....what is the importance of that number??? and are these numbers ok for a person her age??  When I picked up the copies, the nurse says: these numbers are due to her not fasting...ok i know that about the chemistry labs but i don't agree with the thyroid labs because i took them before after i eating.

Thoughts and comments are appreciated....Thanks in advance.

Barbara

I wouldn't call 0.672 "on the floor"...recommendation is often an "ideal" (we know how far that goes!) range of 0.5-1.0  FT4 at 1.21 in a range of 1.1-1.8 is actually in the bottom quarter of the range.  FT3 is right at midrange.

Considering your thyroid history, I think it's wise to monitor your children's thyroid levels periodically.  However, I see nothing in these labs to be concerned about at the moment.

I don't look at a whole lot of "totals", since we consider them obsolete (for a reason), but I do know that totals do not correlate well with frees at all.  Frees are what's important.  That's what's available to cells, and your daughter seems to be doing just fine in that department.

Fasting has nothing to do with thyroid bloodwork, as you said, but it is important for the CMP.
