There are many articles on brain fog and Hashi. You need to just google it.
Question: What are your FT3/FT4 levels and what levels of thryoid meds do you take?
If your levels are high enough, usually top 1/3, then the brain fog should be much better. However, many people with Hashimoto's suffer from adrenal fatigue and vitamin D deficiency. Both of these can fog up the brain.
I recommend 4,000 IU vitamin D daily. The 24 hour saliva test is the most reliable test for adrenal fatigue. The others are not reliable.
It's tough when a family member doesn't support you in your time of illness. After my nephew yelled that my Hashi was made up so I can have an excuse to sit on the couch, my neck swelled for the rest of the night. The stress caused by family can work like fuel to your auto-immunities, causing your thyroid to flare up and then you'll have a miserable rest of the day. It's not fair to you, and it's too bad your father isn't more understanding of your condition.

T3 and T4 are being re-tested agin in 3 weeks, as well as thyroid antibodies. Last test was about 4 weeks ago and at the moment Im on 50 micrograms of eutrosxig. I havent been tested for Hashi's yet, at the moment we only know I am quite hypo. Im being tested for Hashi's on may 13th when I get my next labs taken.
Dad has sort of calmed down a bit since earlier, but when I'm resting he still looks at me as to say he wishes I'd just get up and not waste the day. I wish I wouldnt waste as much time resting but if it's what my body needs then I need to slow down and rest.
Dude I understand, my grandpa is the same way. Cancer dosent exist because he's never had it.
Its unfortunate that some people wont understand thyroid symptoms, even family. Thyroid can effect everything, brain fog is very common. Many people can not put themselves in others shoes, I have siblings like that. I think the letter Idea is great, If he is a temperamental person and cant understand. I had Hashi in school, one of my instructors let me take a break during one five hour final (I napped and did very well!), that was the advantage of a small school I guess, and one great professor.
Thanks for all the great advice everyone, I think I'll hold off until I get my next lab results and write a letter and attach the info, my labs and the letter and see what happens.
LazyMoose - I have great people at uni as well, program director and lecturers are fantastic!!
Redheadaussie - sorry to hear your ex thought you were doing drugs! It must have been horrible for you
argh!!!! It happened again last night so frustrating!!!! Just because I spent more time in bed than out of bed yesterday. Well, had labs taken today so hopefully once I get the results I can get some info together to give dad.
I think the only way you are going to get him to pipe down is show him the test results. Print out any info on Hashi's from the net and hand it to him with a nice note saying something along the lines of;
Dad, I love you, but I don't think you realise, just because I don't look sick, doesn't mean I'm not. I have moments when I am really ok, and other times, I can't do anything. Please don't think I am lazy, I am trying hard to do my Uni and help out around the house, but this thyroid disease is really hard on me. I am sorry that when I need to rest at odd times it looks like I am not trying. My body needs to heal and I would really love it if you could learn more with me about what is happening to me right now,
Love....etc etc......
I have found in my experience that people read a letter and take it in much better than us standing in front of them trying to explain.
He might be feeling bad too, if he is your natural dad, he might be feeling guilty he 'gave' you the disease. Some men find it hard to communicate, so it could be that he just feels pressured and needs help to do the chores around the place and 'lost' it with you.
Either way...there is only one way to solve this..COMMUNICATE!!!!
I wish someone had told me I HAD a thyroid disease all those years ago. My ex husband was convinced I was doing drugs. I looked awful! I don't blame him. I am sad there is not enough education out there for people like us!
Let me know how you get on!
