New Hashimotos diagnosis

I had a partial thyroidectomy last week due to undetermined biopsy results on a multinodular goiter.  Nodules were benign, but they said I had Hashimotos Disease.  I have had multiple thyroid panels done, all which come back normal.  I don't have the symptoms of hypothyroidism.  I've read a lot of negative things on here and am looking for some positive!  I don't know what to expect in my future.  Hope to see my endo next week.

AJ's right - people come to forums like this because things haven't turned out well for them, their doctors haven't treated them optimally, etc and they're looking for help to get on the road to better health... There are thousands/millions of success stories out there that don't seek help from forums like this because everything went well and they, either, don't need help or they don't know help is available.

If you don't, currently, have any symptoms of hypothyroidism, you're one of the lucky ones that really don't have any symptoms.  Some have symptoms, but not the common ones, typically connected with hypo, so they don't realize where their symptoms are coming from.

I'm not being negative, I'm being realistic... The thyroid controls so many of your body functions and every cell in your body needs it.  Hashimoto's, by definition destroys thyroid tissue, so it's a relatively sure thing that at some point, the antibodies will destroy enough of your remaining thyroid tissue that  it will not be able to produce enough hormones to sustain you and you will become hypo, and need thyroid replacement hormones.  If you have a good thyroid doctor, that doesn't have to be a bad thing.  There are many of us on the forum who have been on medication for years and will be on it for years to come and do well, as long as our doctors don't pull the rug out from under us.

Many people live with Hashimoto's for many years and don't even know they have it (I did);  just because you know you have it, doesn't have to turn your life upside down, if you don't have symptoms.  Enjoy...

Reason being, most are at med forums to seek assistance, so alot of negatives will be shared.  There are also just as many positive treatments, that are not shared at forums.  Each person's journey is different.  What's important is staying focused on your journey/treatments.

If you've had thyroid panels with normal results, no thyroid symptoms, then that's a postive step proceeding forward.  Wishing you well.
