Are the meds making me feel so worrisome and paranoid?

I had my partial TT on Sept 9th of this year. A few days afterwards the doctor started me on 50 mcg of synthroid. I have been on them for almost 3 weeks. I don't feel much different although I first I thought I did. The one thing I can't ignore is this constant worrisome feeling. The ent found a "nodule" or something on my spit gland when he was examining me. It is felt under the skin and I can move it from side to side with my finger. He said they normally are benign but that he would check it in 6 weeks during my follow up to see if any needs to be done with it. I have felt it on my own since June of this year. ANYWAY...............I can't stop thinking and worrying about the darn thing. It is a constant state of worry that it may be the C word. I have never felt so depressed and worried over something in my life.........well except my thyroid nodule. I was just wondering if perhaps I am feeling so emotionally down and worried because of the meds?

Tx....sorry to hear that you're experiencing so much emotional turmoil and worry after having gone through the surgery and gotten through that.

However, I do feel that your doctor is not really that concerned about this lump on your salivary gland or, he'd not wait 6 weeks to do further checks on it.  I think that it's simply something that he's noticed and at the moment, doesn't see any urgency to it but, will recheck it.  It may be gone by the time you see him again for all we know.

You know, I've heard of other patients going through emotional upheaval after any type of surgery.  Don't forget, your body is going through changes, it's tired, you're tired from fretting both pre-surgery and now, post surgery.  Being tired can cause the emotional swings as can worry.  And, don't forget that your body is adjusting to a hormonal adjustment as well.  There's lots right in those things alone to cause the emotional swings that you're going through right now.

If I remember correctly, you had no cancer found at surgery.  So, why leap to the conclusion that this "lump" is cancer?  It's not like you had cancer and it's spread.  Why not assume that it's something to be re-checked casually the next time that you see your doc and leave it there?  No one has told you anything differently, have they?  Even your doc is ho-humming it, saying...."we'll recheck it in several weeks but, go home and live your life and heal!" *smile*  Even he has said that they are normally benign!  With no cancer on your thyroid, the odds of it being cancer there are next to nil from what he's seemingly saying.  So, RELAX!  Let your body recuperate and heal and rest up....get sleep, do things that you enjoy and make you feel happiest!  Keep your mind occupied with LIFE.....YOUR LIFE and stop feeling this lump!  You're likely aggravating the heck right out of it! *smile*  (My bet is that you're feeling it 20x's a day!!! *wink*)

Sending you a hug and a suggestion to go snuggle up with your kids, your pets, your hubby or a good friend and watch some comedies!  Relax and you'll stop this emotional rollercoaster that you're on as your body relaxes and recuperates.

HUGS!!!!!!!!!

Do most people experience highs and lows when starting thyroid meds? I feel sooo emotionally unstable lately.

I'm sorry you're having this additional issue to deal with.  I know it's easier said than done but please try not to worry now.  I try to figure - let's not worry until we know we really have to.  It does sound like you're in good hands with that dr and that he is watching out for you.  So maybe you can gain some comfort from that thought.

I don't think your meds alone are causing you're emotions, but do think it's a combination of everything: recent surgery; another physical issue to deal with; adjustment to the med for where you're at now.

Take special care of yourself at this time and keep sharing.

I send you warm thoughts and hugs.
