Need Help
Hello,
I was diagnosed in 2009 with hypothyroidism. Been on levothyroxin 132 mcg daily now 6 months ago Dr only tested tsh which was usually around 3.2 and was at 5.5.. got a call that it was abnormal but keep taking medicine.. My symptoms for the last 8 months are weight gain of 30 lbs. I'm active and under 1000 calories a day. Trouble swallowing sometimes food gets stuck in throat. Feel like I'm getting altimerzs. Hair loss. Neck sore like I strained it.Dry skin. And daily joint pain.. Had Dr appt today and I asked her if we could try armour or adding T3. And she balked. I said from what I had been researching my tsh needed to be way lower almost suppressed.. she said no that would cause brain problems.. Long story short armour is outdated and sythroid alone rules.. She did as I asked and added free T3 and free T4 to blood work. I asked that she keep a open mind and she said she would call me next week with results.. My question is I feel depressed now and don't know where to turn?? Depending on what she says I may have to look for a new Dr.. I called a pharmacy today about a Dr that would prescribe armour?? And they said a ENT Dr does.. I'm gonna have to start all over... pray they get it(my symptoms ).. and out more money.. Does any have any ideas?? Any Dr's in the East Texas area that listens to patient?? Any help appreciated.

I have a number of member recommended thyroid doctors in the Ft. Worth/ Dallas area. Is that close enough to be of interest to you?
I live near Marshall and Longview Texas. A big thanks I can live with some of the symptoms but not all of them. A better quality of life..
From what you have told us about the doctor, I would not waste one more minute of time there. Just consider the following and you will understand what I mean.
A good thyroid doctor will treat a hypo patient clinically by testing and adjusting Free T3 and Free T4 as necessary to relieve symptoms, without being constrained by resultant TSH levels. You can get some good insight into clinical treatment from this letter written by a good thyroid doctor for patients that he sometimes consults with after initial tests and evaluation. The letter is then sent to the participating doctor of the patient to help guide treatment. In the letter, please note the statement, "the ultimate
criterion for dose adjustment must always be the clinical response of the patient."

I'd be glad to try and give you a doctor recommendation for your area, if I have one on my listing of member recommended doctors. Please be more specific about your location. As you Texans are always reminding us, it is a big place. LOL
