Nodule on isthmus

Hi Dr.
I was told during a routine gyno appt that I had an enlarged thyroid and she sent me to get an US done.  That was last Thursday.  I was looking for information regarding nodules on the isthmus, but couldn't find any here.  I got the report today and it reads the following:

IMPRESSION:  US Thyroid
2.3x1.4x2.0 cm nodule of the thyroid isthmus

COMMENT:  US examination of the thyroid gland was performed.
The right lobe of the thyroid measures 4.1x1.4x1.5 cm. and the left lobe measures 3.9x1.2x1.5 cm.  There is a thyroid nodule involving the entirety of the isthmus in the midline measuring 2.3x1.4x2.0 cm.  It is predominantly solid with cystic components.
The right and left lobe show mild heterogeneity of echotexture, but no discrete nodules are identified.

Any information you could give regarding this would be appreciated.  I am now being referred to an ENT and that is next week, after Thanksgiving.  I'm just curious as to what I should be prepared for.

This is a very old thread (6 yrs, to be exact) and traceI99 has not been active on the forum since I've been around, which is 5 yrs.... I doubt you will get a response to your post, other than mine.

Look at this website -- I was just diagnosed today with a 5-7 mm nodule on my thyroid isthmus and reading this site helped me become better informed.

I'm not really sure when the isthmus is involed vs. either the right or left or both sides.  However, it is  not tiny and large enough they may very well recommend having it removed .. however, no advice here as I'm not familiar with a nodule on the isthmus bcz most on the board are on the lobes.

Pls. let us know what you find out and how you are doing.

When they removed my right lobe they also took out the isthmus.  I had 2 nodules on my right lobe.
