Just Diagnosed with Hypothyroidism

I was just diagnosed with Hypothroidism and started on medication 10 days ago.  I am taking levothroxin 25 mg right now.  I would like any feedback I can get on how long it might be before I am less fatigued and have more energy.  I would appreciate any comments.
Thank You!

I was diagnosed with an underactive thyroid last week.  I've been taking 25mcg of Levothyroxine for 5 days and I feel much worse.  I've had the last 3 days off work because I can't operate.  My mind is slow, my body is slower.  I keep dropping things and can barely get a sentence out.  I feel frustrated and low.

I was just wondering if anyone else has had this experience.  The doctor couldn't tell me much other than to wait for a week and see how I feel.  It would be encouraging if someone else had this feeling to begin with, but once the doses were right, it went away.  Here's hoping!

You may get alot of answers on "what is normal" and this will confuse you.

I suggest since you have just started on thyroid medication you keep a journal each day on how you feel. Write down your current levels of TSH and T's hormones you were tested on to put you on thyroid medication and how you felt prior to getting it while it is still fresh in your mind.

At the end of six weeks while being on the medication and you will be ready for a retest. Compare you new levels since on meds and how you have adapted to them.

This way you and your doctor have a "history" as I call it - to tweek your meds to help you get back to feeling "a normal" for you.

Thank you for the information. I don't even know what normal is, but will ask when I go in for blood work again.  Again, thank you.

It can take a few weeks for the meds to kick in.   Usually when starting a patient on thyroid hormone the doctor will run labs after 6 weeks.  At that point you will know if you're levels have normalized.
