Why are you having it?  I have cancer and am two weeks away from ablation.  I have been hormone starved since my last surgery June 9th.  I am severely hypo and am now on a low iodine diet so that my thyroid tissue that is left can suck up the RAI 131 and kill it off.  About three days prior to dosing I will get blood tests and make sure my hormones are ready, then dose me on July 27th.  I cannot be near anyone for at least 24 hours, then only 6 feet from anyone for a week.  I am to drink lots of water and try to flush it out of my system as fast as possible, so the more I sweat, pee and spit, the better.  Everything that comes out of you is radioactive. I must use my own bathroom, use separate dishes (I am going with paper), wash laundry seperately, and shower separately.  Everything must be washed down after use or thrown away.  My family is actually taking the vacation we planned, but I am not going to be able to go, but that is fine, I don't have to tip toe around them.  RAI 131 has a half life of about 8 days, so that is when I am able to see family again, but they suggest you not sleep with spouse for about 10-14 days.  After 10 days, I get a full body scan to check for distant metastises, and if I am clear, I am done.  There is a good story at:

He gives good information about his ablation.  You can also get more information at

Hello,

Ablation is usually done with I-131 radiated iodine, given orally, either in liquid form
or capsule. Then, there is isolation for a varying number of days. My doctor had
me stay away from everyone for 5 days. This is to protect others from exposure
to radiation.

What is your reason for ablation?
