Has the doc ever checked your free T3? Free T3 is the most important test for hypothyroids like us. More important than T4 and TSH. It is the active component that largely regulates your metabolism. I also suggest that you check your temperature for several times a day for several days and compare the average to the optimal of 98.6. The lower your temp. below 98.6, the lower your metabolism and the greater the need to get your free T3 level to the upper part of its range.
Has your dr checked your vitamin B-12 levels? I have pernicious anemia and prior to the diagnosis, I had a lot of pain in my feet, legs, hands and arms - kind of tingling, numb sort of feeling, along with such horrible fatigue, I couldn't stay awake for more than a couple hrs at a time. Dr said the pain was peripheral neuropathy caused by lack of B-12. I now have to inject B-12 every 2 weeks and a lot of the pain has gone away, but I had it for so long before the diagnosis, that I believe some of it is never going to go away.
The pernicious anemia was the first thing to be diagnosed and although that helped considerably with the way I felt, I still felt crumby - weight gain, hair loss, etc that I finally asked for and got thyroid checked and I'm right there with the rest of you - hypothyroid. Before my hypo diagnosis, my skin itched really bad too and it looked and felt like an alligator because it was so dry that no amount of lotion would help it. Since I got put on med that's gotten a lot better. Have you tried benadryl or something like that to help stop the itching? Ask your doctor.
Hi Utah. No I have never had my neck checked out. Just my lower back and chest x rays a couple of years ago. This year I had a stress test and echocardiogram done in which didn't turn out to bad. My EF was 53%. It has to get into the below 50% to be CHF so I'm safe there for now.
Glad to hear thyroid patients have a back up on craziness. LOL Yaaaa. LOL
My doctor has been just running test lately on my TSH, TF4 and T4. If I'm in pain I just let them know and they just phone me in zanaflex. Unfortunately I requested a light weight drug because med's have always effected me harsh.
Concerning the itching I have never dealt with itching this bad before. I feel like I have poison ivy over my whole body; but, mainly my head.
I guess it's time to go back. The last stress and echo were out of my pocket. NOT cheap. So I have been putting it off. Thanks so very much for your comments.
Your friend always; Amy
The pain and numbness in your hand sound like nerve problems. Do you have any herniated disks in your neck? I also know that you have heart problems - have you had it checked out lately?
Oh, you aren't going crazy - you are a thyroid patient! :-) We're naturally crazy (and have physical problems to back it up!)
The itching could be the cold weather and dryness - thyroid problems seem to compound it. Hair thinning is pretty common with thyroid problems too. Get your doctor to check it out, just in case.
Hugs to you my dear friend.

Forgot to add my head has been itching like mad and my hair is thinning fast. I feel like a monkey searching for fleas and going nuts. LOL Thanks for any input. Amy.
