Thank you so much for responding. I do feel alone with this diagnosis. There are not many endocrinologists in my area. I did read that RAI is the treatment of choice in the US as opposed to Europe and Japan where it is the final choice of treatment. Makes me think that the US is always looking for the quick fix. I did try to find support group for Graves but there is none in my area. Because I did refuse the RAI that first day in Doc office I will have a blood test on Nov, 25 I hope the doc changes his attitude about my having the RAI. I am on a low dose of methimazole (10mg 1X daily). I am thinking doc should take the time to find the right dose for me. Am I thinking clearly?
I was diagnosed the same in 2004. I've been taking methimazole ever since and do just fine. The doctor I had first really pressured me about radiating my thyroid to destroy it - so I changed doctors! My endocrinologist is fine with my current plan. I'm a little too heavy so now I'm counting calories.
