Not sure what you mean....

An eye exam would check for symptoms of Graves Disease but not all thyroiditis conditions.

Or if he did an exam by eye (just looking at your neck) you can have have a normal sized thyroid (no goiter) and still have thyroid issues. Like you can't tell by eye that I have a goiter but it can be felt and an ultrasound measured it.

I agree with KD9ER, you need to get a full blood panel. Check all the thyroid levels and get a CBC too to check for anemia and infections.

Have you had any other lab tests done?  Like the Free T3, Free T4, TSH or any antibody tests?  Just a T4 isn't going to tell you much, likewise neither will the TSH.  You need the whole panel pulled and run.

I think you should at least see an Endocrinologist or an Internal Meds doc to get further help.  You said you work in a medical center, could you approach the doctor you work for and just post your case to him or her and see what they say?  They may refer you to someone.  Thyroid issues are no fun to deal with when no one is helping you.

I wish you the best of luck.  Keep posting!  :)
