Thyroidectomy

I've had a goiter for around15 years, and had Graves disease in 2002-2003. My endocrinologist is now recommending a total throidectomy, because the goiter is growing and I get pressure in the throat and right ear. I'm a bit nervous about surgery. Does anyone have any stories (good or bad) about total thyroid removal?

I had at TT on May 19th for thyroid cancer...it was one of the easiest procedures I have been through.  3 weeks later, I feel back to about 100%.  There are few risks to the procedure and tons of us on here have had it done, so rest assured, you are in great company.  You will be absolutely fine and I am guessing will feel so much better after the surgery!
Good luck!

It's good you're getting yourself informed.

I had mine out because it was growing all over the place.  The problem was discovered while preparing for another operation.  Seems it was quietly making trouble for me.  Yours seems not so quiet and seems more obvious it's making trouble.  Ergo, I can see how a dr would recommend getting it out.  I know it can be unnerving to hear that, but I'm now glad I went along with it.  Hope you eventually feel the same.

We are here for you.  Good luck.
