Very high tsh level

I was recently in the hospital for thyroid problems and my TSH level was 699. The doctor said it was a good thing I came in when I did and they have never heard of one that high. Has anyone had one this high or close? How long did it take to feel better?

yeah, I've had thyroid disease for years. I haven't had my meds for like 5 yrs. because I didn't have insurance and never went in for my yearly blood work to get more meds prescribed (stupid huh?) I have been tired and feeling bad for years but this last year was the worst and I felt like I was getting ready to die (which I was!) so I went to the er and they tested and admitted me. Scared the **** out of me and now I'm afraid I did damage. But I go back and get checked in a wk.

yes, they were sure it was 699, they said I could have died at anytime. They injected my thyroid medicine directly into my veins and gave me 200 mcg orally for 3 days plus injected steroids (don't exactly know why) and now I am taking 200 mcg orally and I have a follow up visit in one more week ( I was released 1 wk ago today). I still have racing heart, shortness of breath and extremely tired.

We've had someone on this forum who was over the high 500's. Can't recall who it was now!
Did they run other thyroid tests and do you know what the results were?
It could also be a pituitary problem as the TSH is not from your thyoid but from that gland.
Did the doc put you on any medications?
