Questions

Hello I am new.  I have been on Levothyroxine since 2005.  I have been on the same dosage of 50 micrograms (i think).  It has never been raised.  I was put on after I had the twins and was having a lot of depression and my thyroid level was high.  My doctor at that time said she would never allow it to go over 3, however I switched doctors due to my old doctor leaving.

I guess my question is how often do you all give blood?  Mine is 1x per year.  I went and looked and in 2007 my level was 3.97  in 2008 in was over 4 but I couldn't find the sheet.  I gave blood again today and am waiting on the results.

Since 2005 I have gained weight and then lost weight.  I know in the past 2 years I have gained 60 lb's I have currently lost 24 of that, but still.  Am I wrong or should I be on a higher dosage?  I just feel like something isn't right!  What is a norma range for a thyroid.

Thanks for your input in advance

it sounds like u have what i have. lol  ur tsh is a little high. it's just my opinion but i think with those symptoms u need a little more meds. if the tsh goes down and the symptoms are still there ask for a little bit of t3. that's what i'm TRYING to do. the NORMAL range is like .45 to 4.5 or .3 to 3.0 depending on who u see. my lab goes by the first one. i feel rotten above 1.0. i gained 40 lbs over the years, only losing it taking Topamax for my migraines. BUT as soon as i'm off it the weight comes right back.so technically i would have gained about 80 lbs , if it hadn't been for the Topamax. i can't stay on it becuz it makes my hair fall out BAD. so i'm fat again. and miserable. and looking for a new endo. good luck to u!

My doctor allows me to stay at the 1.0 or below range on my TSH.

My experience: In Nov my TSH level was .44 but due to weight loss she dropped my dosage from 125mcg to 100mcg, retested in 6 weeks, my TSH level was 5.90, so she upped my dosage to 112mcg, but after two weeks on it i requested my dosage be put back to 125mcg and to keep my TSH level at 1.0 or lower. To my astonishment she agreed. I will get retested again in 4 weeks. (I had a TT 14 yrs ago). I get tested everytime I tell them my symptoms. For the last two years my TSH levels have decreased after being stable for 10yrs. During the 10 yrs I only got tested once a yr, unless I go in complaining about something.

I would tell the doctor your symptoms, you should be tested way before one year if your still having symptoms..
