Hi guys...
I had RAI on october 8th and have been hypo for just under a week now. Am slowly reintroducing the thyroid hormones. I had bloods again today and a increase in the medication (T4 only) is planned for monday.
Prior to RAI I had a FNA on a 17mm nodule which came back cancerous (although, we didnt have the results till after RAI - long story!).
When my endo called with my blood results today, he also said to me that he would eventually (in about 4-6 months) like to surgically remove my dead thyroid. He didnt say much on the phone and I have an appt booked with him for next week to discuss this further. He did say he only suggested it because the nodule was cancerous and I'm young.
Is it really necessary to remove the thyroid/nodule now I've had RAI??? Endo said it's totally up to me and I can say no if I think thats what I should do, but Im just not sure. I've had RAI and it has worked and I am hypo...so does surgery really need to happen????
Thanks :)
