RAI next week

Does weight gain occur after having the I-131 radiation?  I am told that I need a walking dose and so I didn't know if I should expect to gain weight after having the I-131.

I am having RAI on Tuesday. My endo told me to watch what I ate after RAI until he gets my levels back to normal. That is in case you go hypothyroid. You can gain weight during that time, but once your levels are back to normal you can lose again. Some people do not even gain weight after RAI, it is just easy for me to gain. What is your dose of RAI that will be given to you? I am just getting 12 to 15 millicuries. I have Grave's disease and a very small enlarged thyroid. The best thing to do is not worry about your weight right now and focus on feeling better instead. As soon as you feel better you can lose again! At least that is what I am doing anyways! You'll be okay!

Hi,
I only had mine last week (18th)...my appetite is still quite big, but not as ravenous as it was...although food taste better, not sure why....I think that weight gain is varied from person to person, some lose , some gain. I have gained 3 or 4 lbs, but I believe it's from being off my synthroid for a month. I've been on synthroid for a long time, and have had my weight go up and down (pre RAI),,, when I was walking everyday, cut out sugar I lost 30 lbs. When I quit walking and drank soda's, ate brownies I gained 30 lbs.  I have decided in the future to only have a treat once a week...(desert after Sunday dinner )...

Best of luck on your RAI...wishing you good health:))

To: Weight gain and I-131
It has been 2 years since my I-131 treatment.  Would I do it all over again - NO WAY!!!  I have gained 40+ pounds in the past 2 years.  I have continued to eat well and workout.  It doesn't matter what I do, I continue to gain weight.  My doctors don't seem to know why or what to do about it.  Please help if possible.  I am truly desperate, ready to start smoking!!

Take a look at my pics in my profile....one with pink top on was BEFORE RAI.
Others are my journey along the way......
I have lost 11kilograms since RAI ...I gained it all before.
The 'bloating' look was Hypo after RAI.
You can lose it....it just takes that magic little FT3 to be at the right level (hehehe).
RAI doesnt cause weight gain.....levels do.
I had RAI in June 2008 if thats any help.
Havent looked back and would do it again if need be.
