Saw Endo at last, diagnosed with Graves

Today I saw Endo for the 1st time, I wasn`t looking forward to it, was thinking I`d get told again to wait,I was depressed etc, etc!
She was fantastic, she could not believe I`d had no meds though according to info she had I`d had T3 toxicosis
since Jan (I didn`t know this). She gave me Carbimazole 40mg dly and propranolol 3x dly, also said I was
extremely lucky I did not have thyroid storm as resting heart rate was 158 though I was shaking, sweating
like a mad woman by the time she saw me.

I told her about this site and she said "Thank the lord for sites like that, the sooner GP`s and even other Endo`s realise that like everyone is a diff size/shape ther is no text book for Thyroid Disease" I was
nearly in hysterics crying (with relief) and told her I`d really thought I was dying or ready to be committed
and if I hadn`t posted on here the other day think I would`ve went over the edge, Thanks to everyone who answered especially Smilerdebs :-)
She said I was not Atypical as I`ve gained weight 3 stone (nearly died at that, another stone in a wk!!!)
Will this right itself with the pills she gave me, think I did ask her this but was blubbing and can`t remember
what she told me lol?
Also when is the best time to take the carbimazole as she said some people find it best to half it and take
it twice dly?
I`m gonna go now as my fingers sore as nails fell out........actually one more thing, she noticed my right eye
was drooping will this right itself?
She will be sending me to Opthmal (can`t remember) but wants me stabilized 1st.
God I look such a wreck no nails, hair falling out, 3 stone heavier and a bloody eye now....BUT I`m not
Crazy lol.
Thanks everyone x

Hey bhoysbabe :)
Now you can start to research everything like I did and start the road to wellness!

Take the Carbimazole 3 times a day especially the last dose at bedtime as the thyroid 'fires up' between 3-4am and you will wake up shaking or sweating without the Carbimazole to 'block' the hormones.
Dont hesitate to take the beta blocker because as yr levels stabalise , your need for beta blockers will be less.
To make them not so rough on my system, I was halving the beta blocker and taking that 4 times a day so that I wouldnt get 'hyper spikes' when it wore off.

Just get yr bloods done every 4 weeks as the anti-thyroid meds CAN work fast and send you drug induced hypo.
Not a dangerous condition but a lousy feeling one.
The yr Doc will start to decrease the Carbimazole as the levels stabilise.
I was on ATDS for quite a while and wasnt successful at stabalising.....on a continuous road from hyper to hypo.
So watch for that.
Take Care :)

I was in the same boat as you last year at this time. My goodness, I thought I was crazy and my family made me go to my g.p. doctor. He said I was despressed(even though I had anxiety to the hilt) and gave me antidepressants for that , and pills for  the constant diahera problem I was having. I was the opposite of you and lost tons of weight while eating like a horse. I thought I was going crazy myself. I didn't get better and he finally tested my blood...found very low tsh and sent me to my endo. He said graves and he started treating me for that with methimazole and propanonol for my fast heart rate. I felt better in 3 days. Thank goodness you went in and that you are getting treated for your graves, too. I opted for a tt in june and am getting adjusted to the other end of the spectum with being hypo. Even though I am not 'perfect' yet, I am way better than being sick with graves. Trust that you will start feeling better soon. God speed. And thank God we arent crazy after all!  lol
