ultrasound results

I just rec'd my ultrasound results for my thyroid and was wondering if anyone can interpret. I am concerned about the nodule and size of thyroid especially. My TSH, T3 and 4 were WNL. Thanks in advance.

Transverse and longitudinal real-time images of the tyroid are obtained revealing the right and left lobes of the thyroid to measure 7.5 x 1.7 x 2.4 cm and 6.3 x 1.5 x 1.9cm. The tyroid isthmus measures 4 mm.

Thyroid gland is heteogeneous in echogenicity. There is a 3 mm nodule seen in the region of the left lobe of the thyroid.

Thank you both for your help. It appears to be a goiter. The impression reads:
Thyromegaly is seen. A 3 mm nodule is seen in the upper aspect od the left lobe of thyroid.

I have lymes disease as well and my LLMD noticed that I have a rather large neck that is not proportionate to my frame. It really has been that was since I had my son 19 mos ago. My tsh, t3 and t4 were all within normal range. All of my blood work (except for lymes) is normal. Oh, my cholesterol is pretty high as well and I am throwing it up to genetics cuase I really watch what I eat....also could be my thyroid. I am guessing its hypothyroidism. I have an apt with an endocrinologist on 8/24.

Thanks so much both of you.

what made you get checked?

your thyroid is definitely enlarged and heterogenous, which could mean thyroiditis of some variety.  what are your tsh, ft3, ft4 with ref ranges?  did you have anitbodies run as well?

the nodule is small.  i have one that size as well.  it's something that will be monitored every 6-12 months.

3 mm is not that big, nothing can really be done until it reaches 1 cm, then you can do a Fine Needle biopsy.  Watch and wait, really nothing else needs to be done for a while.
