Sleep problems, waking at night

Who still has sleep issues even though your other hypothyroid symptoms are better?

On Erfa Canadian Dessicated thyroid med since May, and I feel a lot better (Hashimoto). Was sleeping fine August to November. Now I cant keep my eyes open before bed 11Pm but wake at 3 to 4 AM, and stay mostly awake for the remainder. Waking is one thing, not getting back to sleep is another.

I go to bed very cold but do feel warm at 3 AM when I just suddenly wake - no night sweats like when I was still hypo, just warm. I wonder if the warm feeling is nighttime adrenal? I might take my ashwagonda again (adrenal adaptogen).

I was this way in the past, now its back. Exercise does not help much. Wonder if this is seasonal?

Magnesium was very calming but seems to have no affect on sleep now.

My free levels were good in Nov - FT4 low range FT3 in upper third of range.

Any advice or experience is appreciated.

When I am too hyperthyroid I cannot sleep well.  It's a tip-off for me that my meds need adjustment.

My labs are close to ok, although I seem to have a problem converting to T3, I go to sleep around midnight and wake up at 4am and have a problem going back to sleep, this has been a symptom for 2 years, I take Lunesta and sleep for 7 hours, although I don't take it for more than a week or two, this way I don't become dependent on it, I will alternate with Antihistamines. I was taking Melatonin 3mg, but then I found out about the endocrine warning (After taking them for two years)
Good Luck FTB4

Funny - even men get night sweats when / if hypo - thyroid does a lot of wacko stuff.

Melatinin does nothing to me - wierd. The package says dont use if endocrine disorders are present.

Picked up some Calm magnesium powder.

Been there, done that -- I used to wake up at least every hour, sweating like a pig....... wasn't unusual to have to get up and shower/change clothes; sometimes even had to change bedding......... my doctor kept telling me it was menopause......... I  had a hysterectomy in 1996 and 14 yrs later I finally said "you know what? Menopause doesn't last for 14 yrs"........ my doctor reluctantly agreed that probably something else was going on, but did no tests at all to help figure it out.........

Amazingly, once I got on thyroid med, my sleep got better, but still had issues; for a very short time, I slept like a baby every night......... now I'm waking up in the night and often can't go back to sleep............

Melatonin (even at the 1 mg level) makes me wake up feeling like someone drugged me; I know others who use it very successfully.........

It is my sleep issues that led me to discover my thyroid problems.  I wake up to 8 times a night with night sweats. (completely soaked) I am peri-menapausal, but I have absolutely no hot flashes during the day and no other menapausal symptoms and the doc seems to think that they are so extreme because of thyroid issues.  I have been on a long road over the last year and am having my thyroid removed on the 3rd because of size, compression symptoms and inconclusive biopsies.  My GREATEST hope is when this is finally over and I get regulated on thyroid meds that I will get some sleep.  Sleep, or the lack of it, effects everything! I notice after a severly sleep disturbed night that I wake fighting a headache that makes mornings tough.  I have used melatonin and it helps slightly.  It is certainly worth a try if you haven't yet, you may find that it will bring you some relief!

I often have the same issues. Because I get up at 3:30 am, I'm almost always in bed before 8:00 at night; however, I often wake up around midnight to 1:00 am and can't get back to sleep, or sleep fitfully for the rest of the night.

I do take magnesium before I go to bed.  I've tried melatonin and even on 1 mg, I wake up feeling like I've been drugged; I know others who take it with great success, though.

Nov 1, my FT3 was mid range, FT4, upper 1/3.

I was going to suggest trying Calm Magnesium. It can never hurt to take your adaptogen....it will help to level you out either way. The other thing you may want to try is the lowest dosage of melatonin.  :)
