PCOS or Hypothyroidism

In 2005 I was diagnosed with PCOS, due to symptoms and blood work, never had Ultrasound show cysts. Thyroid conditions run in both sides of my family. I started getting more interested in my thyroid levels, requested my results for the last few years. Found out that in 2005 when Diagnosed with PCOS my TSH was 3.97. In 2009 I started seeing an RE, my TSH was 2.2 and in 2010 my TSH was 2.8. Now my results from 3 weeks ago, TSH was 4.1. In the last month been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, Asthma, and still in the air of RA or Lupus, but my RA and SED factors are very high. I also was diagnosed with Factor v Leiden, Hyperhomocysteinemia and Antiphospholipid syndrome, in 2009.

I really think it is my thyroid and not PCOS. I have symptoms that fit hypo, but not PCOS, then the ones that fit both. No doctor will listen they are still on the .5-5.0 range. Does anyone else think this is my thyroid and not PCOS?

A low TSH is not indicative of hypothyroid. TSH stimulates your thyroid and is released in response to low levels of thyroid hormones in your blood. A low TSH would be indicative of HYPERthyroidism.

I also was diagnosed with PCOS in 2008, following the birth of my son in 2007.  I had both the labwork and ultrasound to confirm.  In 2009, I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism.  Oddly enough, over the next year or so my PCOS symptoms (which were depression, mood swings, fatigue, but pretty much nothing else relating to PCOS) became more about a low thyroid.  I am now PCOS free and being treated with Armour for my thyroid condition.  Has your doc run any tests looking at blood sugar levels/insulin?  I never had this done, just blood showing high testosterone and multiple cysts on ultrasound.

TSH was the only thing tested. According to the AACE my TSH is high. The new range ref is:. 3-3.0 and anything over 2 should be considered subclinical and failing.

I'd like to see your free T4 test results, which are a better indicator than TSH. Your TSH is in the normal range (unless the lab being used has a different reference range than the one I am familiar with).
