Sweaty Tired Mess!

Hi I came accross this forum as just been diagnosed with hyperthyroidism graves disease 7 days ago.
Free t4 93.2
Free t3 27.9
TSH 0.01
heart rate 120 at rest
Using 40mg Beta blockers every 8 hours
40mg of carbimazole a day.
I can honestly say I've never felt worse! I am unlucky enough to gain weight with an overactive thyroid ( possibly due to my love of cake haha) So along with feeling completey rubbish I am also starting to resemble a whale!

I can't climb the stairs without aching and I feel constantly sweaty and tired! I assume these are typical of graves? All in all feeling pretty sorry for myself a feeling which I cant seem to shift.
I don't know much about hyperthyroidism but doctors seem concerned and are booking me in to hospital as soon as they can. Apparantly t4 levels are highest they've seen so thats an achievement!
Any one with info on what to expect at hospital and for a future with graves would be great!

What are the reference ranges for your Free T3 and Free T4? They do seem very high.

I agree that you will need an ultrasound in order to get more detail.  My guess is that you will most likely end up with either RAI or total thyroidectomy, both of which will leave you hypo in the end and most likely, at some point, you will end up on thyroid replacement hormones, like so many of us.

Weight gain is usually not associated with hyperthyroidism, but does happen; however, what you eat and how much you exercise, has a lot to do with it.

Best wishes.

Hi,

thanks for query. You should go for ultrasound of thyroid and thyroid scan to have some more details information. This is what they will be planning at hospital. Your TSH is very low so you also need some adjustment of the dose after tests. This will guide for future course as whether you may required radioactive iodine and irradiation of your thyroid gland or not. You are quite symptomatic you care is needed.

Wishing you good health.
