I went today to my endocrinologist, just to have my levels checked and get a new prescription. I was taking the brand of Synthorid before - this was prescribed tome by my surgeon. My endo gave me the generic and I was wondering if anybody was able to tell me if there is a difference between the two? As of now I'm on 100 mcg, and he told me he would call if after he sees my levels if he feels my dosage needs to be changed..
Any input would be great!!
Take a brand. The generics are made at several different labs so the forumulations are inconsistent.
If I recall correctly the professor on a Cleveland Clinic Podcast said somehting like-9 out 10 endocrinologists will tell you that you should be on a brand name med and the 10th one is wrong. ;-D
I can't take the generic it made me sick: headache, flushed and burning skin, diarrhea, mild nausea, and weird feeling every time I took the generic (levothyroxineLevothyroxine Levothyroxine sodium). MD switched me to the brand Synthroid and no problems!!! MD said I must have had a reaction to fillers in the generic. If your insurance will cover it, I'd recommend the brand for thyroid med. Too many inconsistencies w/ generic!!
Many of us on this forum swear by a certain brand - for my family it's Synthroid.

Sthyntroid(brand name) or Levoxyl (branded generic) - are the best.Good luck.
