TSH levels

My doctor is considering putting me on thryroid treatment as my TSH level is 5.72 but my T3 and T4 levels are normal. Do you think I need to start a low dose or not take anything.

Any feedback would be helpful.

Don't worry about your cholesterol levels.  NEVER go on Statin Drugs...they cause Alzheimer's , SERIOUSLY... if your cholesterol is 280 it is OKAY...remember THEY want you on drugs, because they SELL DRUGS

I forgot to say that I would try a low dose of thyroid med 25-50 mcg to start and get rechecked in 4-6 weeks.
My level at it's highest was 5.96. 25 mcg brought it down to 2.89. 50 mcg took it to 1.89 and I began to feel a bit better. My TSH has now jumped back to 5.1 and I could tell even before I got the results. I am now on 75 mcg.

Hope the above info is helpful and feel better soon!

Yes, these symptoms may well be (and probably are) due to your thyroid.

I was treated for many things other than thyroid, even though that was the cause all along for 13 years. Any TSH above 2.5 is suspicious.

Here are 2 very good articles about levels and the reference range:

Many of my symptoms have subsided since beginning treatment last September. My levels are off again, so we are still trying to optimize my dose of medication.

These tests were performed last november and yes I have been feeling out of sorts for 2 years now. My joints ache alot and I have arthritis of the knee. My hair is dry and I have been depressed. I thought it was depression and the perimenopause. Could this be the underactive thryoid causing these symptoms then. I have had blood tests for antibodies  not sure if it was for thyroid, but have not had my cholesterol checked.

Do you have symptoms?
You have "subclinical" or mild hypothyroidism, assuming that the TSH has been repeated and is still high.
Treating this can reduce your risk of heart disease. Have you had Cholesterol and other lipids checked?

Have you had your thyroid antibodies checked?
