12 Years On Levoxyl

Is there EVER a chance that I could get off of this medication through diet and exercise?

125 mcg of Levoxy since 1996.   Reason of medication; Benign tumor removed on right side of thyroid leaving me with 1/2 funtioning.

Going over your post again--exercise--if you are overweight or in the high range for your ideal BMI, then losing weight might actually lower how much med you have to take.  Fat holds onto estrogen--estrogen blocks thyroid hormones--simplistic explanation.

I should probably work out because I'm like a skinny overweight person--not much muscle.

Yeah--hypertension is a different beast and doctors still debate the efficacy of medications to control it...unlike thyroid issues--which has controversy--but a different kind.

I've understood the medical end of it and that's what was explained to me in '96.  Was wondering if the information had changed, as sometimes it does, over the years.  Example: people that have been placed on hypertension medication were not suppose to get off of it, but over the years it has been shown that this could be done.  That's why I was wondering if a new "insite" had perhaps come to light about my situation.

No. No one on this forum is a physician, but we do know quite a bit about thyroid and the symptoms,  and the ramifications of not taking the medicine.  Just read through some of the posts and you can learn a lot.  I don't mean to sound abrupt, but going off your medication would put you into hypo he// and might possibly send you into coma if left untreated.  There are many sites on the web you can research.  Just search hypothyroidism and you will find a lot of information.  There is a forum for Dr. Lupo on the left side of the forum page.  You could post the question to him.

You would become ill and die.
Your body isn't making enough on its own to handle the load.
But--you can always ask your doctor or get a second opinion on the matter.
