Test Results

Just got my thyroid test results back:

TSH 0.27 (range 0.47-4.53)
Free T4 1.0 (range 0.84-2.26)
T3 132 (range 65-170)

Dr. told me when I saw her (before test results were in) that they don't recommend putting patients on meds until numbers get to a certain point out of the range because of the side-affects associated with them.

I've looked through questions on this board and some responses state that as long as the T4 & T3 are in range, the low number on the TSH is not that big of a concern. Am scheduled for my nuclear scan next week just to check out the lovely goiter and nodules (just love the visual associated with the word GOITER! LOL).

I posted a few days ago about my racing heart feeling, etc. and doc told me to lighten up, probably just anxiety (am a worry wart) as blood pressure and heart are all normal. Told me she would put me on Inderol to slow the heart and reduce the racing feeling, but I'm opting out of that since I rarely get that feeling.

Thanks for your responses and I hope everyone is feeling well today.

Hi,

I am having a partial thyroidectomy next week. I have had normal labs but two nodules, right is sucpicious. Good you are having the uptake have you had a FNA Biopsy yet? if not good idea to have that done, it can give some idea of what it is, though the doc told me that can not be precisly clear until they remove it. Good luck on your test and your decisions any question ask away.

Did you have any adrenal problems? Your levels relate to adrenals getting stronger and if so, eventually your TSH and
FT-4 should also go up as they get stronger.
Right now your TSH suggest hyperthyroidism which is probably the reason for your racing heart.  Sometimes hyperthyroidism doesn't affect the BP or pulse, it didn't mine. Your scan next week will tell more.

The TSH tells whether a person is either hyperthyroid or hypothyroid and I think that is pretty darn important.  Either one if sever enough can cause  coma or death, or other  irreversible health consequences, and I think that is very darn important!

Good luck with the scan.

Thanks for your response. My TSH has been hovering around this level for years and T3 & T4 have always been in the normal range. Haven't had the racing feeling very much, just recently had more activity than normal. Was diagnosed with the hyperactive thyroid years ago and it has never been a concern with any of my doctors over the years.

Both my MD and Thyroid specialist have told me not to worry too much because the TSH isn't too far out of range. Gonna have to trust their opinions since they both are in agreement.

My "racing heart" feeling I do believe is anxiety. I'm very high strung and have gotten moreso since 9-11 and watching and reading way too much news on a daily basis.

Have not had any adrenal problems to date.

Thanks for your concern. Curious as to what the scan shows next week.
