Glad you survived Hurricane....
Just make sure they check everything under your jaw line. All the glands. Well check in with you this weekend. I do have a personel email at home if you want it.
OK - sorry for the mess ups. Supposed to read "I am having a bad week and today my neck hurts...... "
Then it should have read "my head feels heavy, like it could topple off my neck..."
And the back of my neck is hurting too.
Thanks Totie - been wondering about you. How is the weight and general feelings? Are you any better? I am having a bad week today. My neck hurts, all the way around and my head feels heavy, like it could topple off my head. My LEFT ear is stuffy (which is usually the right) and the "full" and today painful neck swelling is radiating up into under my chin and in my jaw. It is the wierdest feeling. I was not able to have my appointment, HURRICANE GUSTAV blew through my town in central Louisiana. I have another appointment scheduled for next tuesday. My CT shows an (by my words) asemetrical blob on the right (CT images posted in my profile) that I guess I will have to question further. I did not have the guts. MORE LATER, MY HEAD IS POUNDING and my heart kinda is too. Feeling really crappy today. :( I am very glad they are looking into the problems FINALLY for you dear.
I was thinking of you when i went to the new Endo.
Mind you, i have had 2 MRI, 2 ct scans done of the neck and 2 ultra sounds done of the neck because it hurts so bad, but they kept telling me, can not find anything wrong..You have to have a good tech who is willing to actually look at what he is looking at. Apparently most techs just glance at things like the ENT did. I have had a mass since May that has grown since..
I know about the pain you are talking about....exactly....mine goes deep into the ear.
The ultra sound picked a mass or something around or in the submandibular gland that they will go in and remove entire gland on the 25th of this month.
Back when i had a ct scan done of the neck they noted .8 x .6cm either nodule, lymph node, parathyroid, lesion, not sure is what the report read, but nothing was ever mentioned about it. In Aug. an Endo did an ultra sound on my neck because it hurts so bad to eat and he reported a 1.23 x 1.32 cm mass, cyst very complex. He was not sure what it was, but that it had grown since May, so he sent me back to ENT with copies of his report. The ENT said something about not knowing what it is, apparently it is something attached to the submandibular gland, do not have the copies yet of report.
Just make sure they check all glands in your neck .....
Mommy2two:
What did you find out with your tests? What you are describing is EXACTLY what I feel!!!!! I have described it to countless doctors and I finally had a soft tissue MRI that picked something up but I don't know the details until next week.
THANK YOU SO MUCH 898! Just getting prepped for the next appt. Will discuss all of this with the doc.
Many nodules are forming as a result of thyroid inflammation[sub-acute, post partum or Hashimoto's thyroiditis]; therefore they are not sign of cancer.
The IV-contrast with X-ray is the useful tool to evaluate the blood vessels
So - does that mean I may have been growing a nodule beginning in April? And - I know this next question is me being paranoid, BUT - does the fact that I have very normal blood tests give any bigger indication that this could be cancer?
Also, since you are our resident expert on US --- is it possible for my doc to do a US of the thyroid and surrounding tissue and arteries to insure there is nothing in or on my carotid or other artery, vein or nerve? Is it common practice to check that out with US? I want to request that when I go to the doc on Tuesday, if possible. I am so sick of playing around with this mess. I just want to know my odds now.
A nodule-like feature was on ultrasound image in this area [I had to enhance contrast on us image to see it].
The soreness is in my throat (but not a sore throat) if that makes sense. There is also soreness in just one area right under the right sternomastoid muscle (the part I can pull back to show my swollen thyroid. I guess that is a part of the thyroid that is sore.
The feeling of a lump in your throat might be from your thymus swelling--the thymus is below the thyroid, under the chestbone, and it shrinks after young adulthood. This would indicate a lymphatic issue. If your cervical lymph nodes (along your neck) and the ones under your jaw are swollen along with one or both clavicles and potentially your chestbone, we may have a winner. The vessels you see bulging are probably doing so because they're being compressed by the tissue swelling in that area--be it the thyroid, lymph nodes, or even the thymus.
Is there any pain or soreness?
