Is this true? Hashi...

I have Hashi Hypothrodism. So one told me that "Selenium can help lower the antibodies, and so can a gluten-free diet ... but Armour helps most of all".  Is this true?

I was on armour, thought it made me feel better, but went from 2grains to 1 grain and was very hyperthyroid.  Just started synthroid, again, which I thought I could not tolerate 6 months ago when I was first on it.  Everything just seems to put me hyper, I quit taking armour and now I'm back to being hypo at 50 TSH and back to 50mcg of synthroid for only 2nd day.  I just can't seem to get it leveled.  It is horrible.  Really can't tell yet if synthroid will be tolerable or not.  I'm just so sick of it all.  I haven't had 1 good day in one year.

I went to the holistic MD He told me to stop all gluten and eggs.  Don't worry about the other foods.  He also told me I could eat soy.  He gave me a LOT of supplements and told me to come back in one month.  Do you take supplements and what.  It is a lot to swallow.  He told me to wait 1 hour after taking thyroid and to take these supplements at breakfast and supper.  What do you do and how long before you got some relief.  Also my psychiatrist called and left me a message that the anxiety was from my tsh going up and he would call me and talk to me more.  My doctor also said for me to go to this allergist doctor and talk to him about a new procedure LCD I think where they put a needle under the skin to help you to tolerate foods.  I think that is what he said.  My daughter went to this doctor in Balto. when she had mercury problems and lyme problems.  He really helped her.  What is the main thing that you have to stop when you avoid gluten?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.   lol  linda

I do have a problem with my weight, watching it go up.  I had lost 50 lbs before all this started two years ago and had kept it off for 3 years.  I have gained back 20 of those 50 lbs.  I found a place online Fitday.com that gives you the tools to count your calories and what you eat.  Look at it and see what you think.  It stopped my weight gain.  I am now staying about the same up and down a lb or two.  It helps me to know what I am eating.  I have decided as long as I am feeling so bad that I can't do alot about losing.  Also I am going to the doctor today to find out about the celiac and other food allergies.  Do any of you have food allergies beyond the gluten.  I have a long list that they say I shouldn't eat.  One of them is rice.  How can you eat gluten free if you can't eat rice.  I have been eating rice a little.  I haven't eaten any bread for a couple of weeks.  I also am not supposed to eat casin or tomatoes.  These are two things that I have to have as my diet consists of a lot of tomatoe dishes and dairy.  This may be part of the cause of the axniety I am having at times.  I don't know what came first, the chicken or the egg.  Due top the wonderful memory problems of the thyroid patient I don't remember if the anxiety came and then I found out about the celiac.  I really believe that this is the way it happened as I remember when it started on a saturday but I'm not sure.  Does it matter?  I don't know.  I hope we can stay in touch as after I talk to the doctor I will have lots more questions.  lol linda

hi, i am hashi and although not celiac am gluten intolerant, and dairy intolerant. i dont eat any dairy or gluten and also find it very difficult. i feel very sorry for you because i eat a lot of rice. i also eat a lot of eggs. and potatoes.
i find that my allergies are worse if my tsh is not normal (the hard part is what is normal hey! i dont know what my "normal" tsh is, but i have been adjusting my dosage depending on how i feel - although the doctors dont like it!). if i had a tsh of 3.5 i would be really hypo, but i dont know what is normal for you. 5.6 seems like a tsh that is maybe too high? did you feel better at 3.5? i would suggest trying to find the right tsh for you - i have been trying for a year and finally did (yay!) but then couple days ago changed medication which wasnt a good idea!!
i know it is hard to deal with when you have to cut a lot out of your diet, but i find it's worth it. and maybe if you get your thyroid levels to normal you might not be so allergic (lets hope!!)
good luck

Hi, I am also Hashi and celiac.  I am so frustrated as well about food and weight issues.  It is so hard to focus as much time as needed to make all these changes right now.  I am waiting to retest my TSH in a week and a half to see where I am at.  I feel a little better since starting Levoxyl 75mcg.  But I am still very water bloated and tired around 3 every afternoon, I have foggy thinking and am quite anxious alot.  Just quite overwhelming to be honest.  I am a believer and I know God will continue to guide me and take care of me. I will continue to eduacate myself and fight this until I feel healthy and happy.  I too am dealing with alot from my past and that doesn't help with stress and anxiety ya know?  Good luck to you and God Bless you!!

Hi:  I have hashimoto and celiac.  Does anyone else have a hard time accepting all this and trying to figure it out how to live.  I guess it is causing me to have anxiety all over again with this latest diagnosis of celiac (gluten free diet).  The gluten free is not as hard as the fact that they said I also am allergice to oat, rice, green beans, bananas, tomatoes, all dairy, and many more.  That doesn't leave me much to eat but vegetable, obviouisly not all of them and meat.  The only thing I didn't test positive to is tuna. ugh  I feel like I am in a fog about this.  My tsh was 3.5 and is now up to 5.6.  My endo says don't consider the symptoms I am having as being from the thyroid.  I also am going for counselling and dealing with things in my past.  With all of this I am having a hard time.  I guess the people on here will get tired of my complaining.  Everybody on here has helped me so much and I know someday I will be able to help them.  Got any suggestions for me.  I took a laprazasam yesterday and it helped.  I thought I would have to take one to sleep but I slept very good.  thank you for sharing if you can.   linda

All you said are true to certain degree. lots of books talked about those. but if you are hypo, you still need treatment/supplement. Armour is one of the supplements that hypo people use. good for some people, not all people.
