thanks! Looking for a second opinion today!
I can't tell you what dose you'd need; that would be up to your doctor. T3 med is generally prescribed in the form of cytomel (brand name) or generic T3.
"So then my FT3 is metabolism?" I don't understand that question. FT3 controls metabolism, as well as heart rate, cholesterol levels, etc. What is your doctor basing his comment ("Doc said my metabolism was very good."). It's very possible that if your FT3 level were higher, your metabolism would pick up.
Even though your FT3 isn't horribly low, with your RT3 high, it's possible that's keeping the FT3 from reaching your cells. RT3 is a mirror image of FT3 and can dock upside down in the FT3 receptors, thereby preventing the FT3 from entering the cells.
I do think you need another opinion.
I know about the hypo=poor conversion diagnosis...actually that is the diagnosis on the receipt.....I havent found anything to match...so you are right..Ive never seen that as a diagnosis.
What dose of T3 meds would be given? what kind of meds?
I am definitely thinking of getting another diagnosis.
So then my FT3 is metabolism? Doc said my metabolism was very good.
Thank you for all your information. All information regarding thyroid is NEW very new to me. Thanks for all your comments!!!!!
No, that doesn't make sense...... "hypo-poor conversion" is not a term used regularly.
Hypo is Hypothyroidism. Poor conversion means you don't convert T4 to T3 properly. I don't really see that in your labs. The range for your FT3 is really broad, but your level is at 62% of the range and your FT4 is at 54%. Rule of thumb is for FT4 to be mid range and FT3 to be in the upper 1/3; your FT3 could be a bit higher, but many of us would love to have levels like that (myself included).
Typically, when FT3 is lower and RT3 is high, the patient is given a dose of T3 med for a period of time.
You might want to ask for antibody tests to determine if you have Hashimoto's and if your doctor refuses, look at getting another opinion.
Ft3 is 3.5 range is 2.0-4.4 and ft4 is 1.34 and the range is .82 - 1.77 which according to doc are good..."stopping" me from losing any weight. Doc said that taking iodine, vitamin d3, iron will help(no thyroid meds). The diagnosis was hypo-poor conversion. Never mentioned hypothyroidism however, poor conversion on the side of hypothyroidism. Thanks for comment. Does any of this make sense?
Please post the reference ranges for the lab results, specifically, FT3 and FT4.
Are you currently on a thyroid replacement medication?
