Thyroid cyst - Cancer?

I  had ultrasound Wed. and dr.referred me to local surgeon 3 hours later  with documents which state "2.4x3.7x2.6cm cyst in RT lobe with microcalcifications, mural nodule, evidence of recent hemorrhage, fluid/fluid" .
I guess I should get ready for surgery for removal of cyst.
Is there any way to tell how long this mass has been growing?

the biopsy should get sample from the mural nodule. If the results will be benign, then aspiration + follow up strategy may be used.

No, I didn't feel it growing - just when it really popped out due to a flu-type virus I had 2 wks ago.  Dr. said evidence of some kind of haemorrhage, which caused it to swell.
Yes, biopsy next week, probably surgery next month, as it's too big to remove via laparascope and is attached to wall in Rt lobe.

Everyone's grows at different paces, most grow gradually and over a slow period of time. Did you feel yours growing? Are they going to biopsy it first?
