Interesting article on "Hot" patients

Below is a url for an article on the rising use of radioisotopes in medicine and the growing use of radiation detectors in a security-conscious nation, patients are triggering alarms in places where they may not even realize they're being scanned.

Just glad I don't have tickets to the Super Bowl. "Lucy....you have some eshplaining to do!"

This reminds me of my experience setting off a "geiger counter". I believe my second RAI treatment was shortly after 9/11 and it was a high dosage because my first treatment did not take. i was at the airport getting ready to fly somewhere for work; i was looking up at the departure board when a customs agent walked right by me. i did not really pay attention to her but did notice the patch on her arm. I also noticed she doubled back behind the ticket counter. As i was getting my boarding pass, a ticket agent came up and asked me if i was carrying any radioactive materials. i was stunned and had no idea what he was talking about. he then asked me if i had just had any kind of radiation treatment and i said yes. He then thanked me and simply walked away. the ticket agent who was taking care of me was just as stunned as i was and she said she had never heard anyone asked that question before. I could not figure it out to the point where i called the office to see if anyone was playing a joke on me. i finally figured it out that the customs agent was carrying a wand and i must have set it off. how remarkable that a month or two after treatment i was still emitting enough to set off an alarm. my old endo (who i dumped) never even gave me the heads up that i could still be emitting and that this might occur. i had images of being carted off to some room in the airport and interogated for carrying nuclear weapons. LOL.

This article says we could still "glow" 3 months after receiving radiation treatment.  I just hope I don't have to go the the Pentagon for work any time soon.
