Thakyou for reply the cause of my hypo is hereditary, a ultrasound revealed a healthy undersized thyroid will ask about T3
A pituitary adenoma or other pituitary issue is a possibility, but I think there are less expensive/more readily available tests that I might jump to before self-paid MRI.
The very first thing I'd test is FREE T3. T4 is the "storage" form of the thyroid hormones. Before it can be used by cells, it must be converted to T3, the "active" form. Some people convert slowly, and even though their FT4 levels are adequate (sometimes even high) and can cause hyper symptoms, they remain hypo due to low FT3 levels. Low FT3 can also make your TSH rise. Perhaps your doctor would add FT3 to the tests planned for next week???
Also, do you know the cause of your hypo? Have you ever had antibody tests?
Reference range is Free T4 9.0 19.00 pmol/L
TSH 0.35 5.00 mih/L
Have not had T3 tested had serum tests done and acth am going for another acth and growth hormone test on Monday.
What's the reference range on your FT4? Ranges vary lab to lab, so you have to post them with results.
Has anyone ever tested FT3???
